Joel Sequeda Pérez (born in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 1967) is a writer, psychologist and theatre instructor. He grew up in Camajuaní and took an interest in reading and writing as a child. He trained in the arts and joined the Carlos Loveira literary workshop in Encrucijada, where he received guidance from literary adviser Ileana Pérez. These experiences helped him develop as a fiction writer. He is a graduate of the Centro de Formación Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardoso.

In 2000, he won the Pinos Nuevos Prize for Strips of Skin, a short-story collection published the following year by Letras Cubanas. He also won the inaugural Dinosaurio Prize for his flash-fiction story “Ascents”. His other books include Never-Ending Tales (2008), a collection of rural legends for young readers co-written with Jesús Carreras and Ernesto Miguel Fleites; An Intruder on the Roof (2011), a novel for young readers; and Hearse, a crime novel. All three were published by Capiro.

His short stories, reviews and articles on culture have appeared in journals such as Signos, Umbral and Islas, the newspaper Vanguardia and online publications including La Jiribilla. He has also contributed to Tiempo libre, a newspaper supplement in the Canary Islands, taking his writing beyond Cuba. Writers including Agustín de Rojas Anido and Carmen Sotolongo Baliño have given his work critical attention. He is also the author of Triangles, a novella written in 2016.
